Morning Greeters
Here are the nine week old Barred Rocks. They are perched on top of the nesting boxes. A roosting perch was added yesterday morning. When I closed up the coop last evening all but one was perched and definitely putting it to good use. If one pays attention these birds are pretty smart and more alert than people might give them credit.

Red Golden Pheasant Eggs
During the morning weekend chores, I discovered more eggs. The Red Golden Pheasants have been busy. Looks like the hen will be sitting sometime soon. The Ringneck Doves have been nesting as well. Three new sets of squabs so far this Spring! It all started several years ago with a couple RG Roosters and some hens and half a dozen doves. Now there are chickens!

Meet the 'Hot Chicks'
The original order of 30 Buff Orpington day old pullet (female) chicks arrived 2 months late, on April 24, 2012. The hatchery offered to correct their mistake on the original order placed for delivery on February 28, 2012. Needless to say these chicks have a way to go before they catch up to the Barred Rock chicks delivery on February 28th, who are now 9 weeks old. This is how they looked back in February.
So starts my adventure and learning with Backyard Chickens!
